A Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the trial of two alleged leaders of the Ansaru terrorist group, Mahmud Usman and Abubakar Abba, to January 15, 2026. Justice Emeka Nwite granted the adjournment after defence counsel requested time to access the charges and study the proof of evidence, which are still held by the DSS.

The defence also asked that the suspects be moved to a correctional centre for easier access, but the prosecution opposed the request, noting that the counsel had yet to follow DSS procedures for visitation.

Justice Nwite, ruling in the interest of fair hearing, ordered the defence lawyer to formally write the DSS for access and copy the prosecution. Usman and Abba are facing a 32-count terrorism charge. Usman has pleaded guilty to one economic-related count, while both men denied the remaining charges.
