The Rivers State Police Command has announced comprehensive security measures to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free Yuletide season across the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command said the measures were part of proactive steps to sustain law and order during the festive period, stressing the need for strong synergy with sister security agencies. Residents were urged to use the season for sober reflection and prayers for the peace and progress of Rivers State and the nation.

The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, has approved the deployment of tactical teams to strategic locations, including entry and exit points, waterways, motor parks, hotels, recreation centres, churches, mosques and other identified hotspots.

According to the Command, the deployments are aimed at strengthening visible policing, enhancing surveillance and ensuring rapid response to any security threat that may arise during the celebrations.

The CP has also directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to fully deploy their operational and intelligence assets within their areas of responsibility to ensure effective policing and a smooth festive season.

The Command said it is intensifying community engagement by working closely with traditional rulers, youth organisations and religious leaders to build trust, boost public confidence and encourage timely intelligence sharing to prevent crimes.

Parents were advised to caution their children against the use of fireworks, pyrotechnics and knockout shooting, noting that such activities pose serious safety risks.

Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property before, during and after Christmas, the Police urged residents to secure their homes, remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic. The Command made available its emergency lines — 08032003514 and 08120822987 — while extending Christmas and New Year goodwill messages to residents of the state.
