Alabo Charles Douglas Mac-Pepple Jaja has been formally proclaimed the Amanyanabo-Elect and Treaty King of Opobo Kingdom, Rivers State.

The proclamation was made on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, by the Council of Alapu of Opobo Kingdom at Opobo, in accordance with the kingdom’s age-long customs and traditions.

Alabo Charles Mac-Pepple Jaja is the younger brother of the late monarch, His Majesty King Dr. Dandeson Douglas Jaja, CFR, DSSRS, Jeki V, the Amanyanabo and Treaty King of Opobo, who recently joined his ancestors in line with Ibani tradition.

Before his emergence, the Amanyanabo-Elect was the Alabo of the Mac-Pepple Jaja War Canoe House, one of the revered royal houses in the kingdom.

Upon coronation, he is expected to assume the revered title of King Jaja of Opobo and likely bear the regnal name Jeki VI, succeeding his elder brother on the throne.

The transition follows the earlier announcement of the passing of the late monarch by the Council of Alapu, which also unveiled funeral arrangements in his honour.

Opobo Kingdom shares deep historical and cultural ties with Bonny Kingdom, both of Ibani extraction, and these shared traditions are expected to be reflected in the rites and ceremonies leading to the coronation of the new Amanyanabo.
