... urges citizens to ignore sounds of war
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that despite political turbulence and internal challenges that marked the early years of his administration, the state has emerged stronger and more resilient, expressing confidence that 2026 will usher in a decisive turning point for stability and development.
Speaking during the New Year crossover service at the Chapel of Everlasting Grace, Government House, Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara reflected on what he described as a difficult but defining period in the life of his administration, noting that governance in the past two years was turbulent and at times slowed by crises.
He said that despite the pressures, Rivers State was not overwhelmed, stressing that the ability of the state to withstand the storm was evidence of divine intervention and the collective resilience of its people.
According to the governor, the survival of the state through the trying period has laid a solid foundation for renewed focus, peace, and accelerated development in the new year, adding that 2026 would mark the beginning of a more stable and progressive phase for Rivers State.
Governor Fubara urged residents to remain calm and undistracted by political noise or intimidation, assuring them that his administration remains committed to prayer, restraint, and peaceful engagement rather than confrontation.
“We do not have the instrument of war; the only thing we have is our knees. We will continue to pray to God. Do not be troubled by the sounds of war you are hearing,” he said, expressing optimism that those who trust in God will not be put to shame.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to a peaceful political future for the state, noting that any political alignment or support ahead of the 2027 general elections would be pursued through dialogue and understanding, not threats or coercion.
The governor commended the people of Rivers State for their steadfast support and resilience, describing their loyalty as a major source of strength that helped the administration remain steady in the face of sustained challenges.
In his sermon, the Government House Chaplain, Pastor Ogan Barasin, speaking on the theme “At Thy Word,” urged obedience to divine instruction in 2026, warning that delayed obedience could result in delayed testimonies. He declared the new year a season of visible and tangible miracles, offering prayers for peace, progress, and enduring stability in Rivers State.
