Wife of the Governor of Rivers State, Lady Valerie Siminalayi Fubara, visited the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt, to mark the New Year and celebrate babies born at the dawn of 2026.
Lady Fubara was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Roseline Uranta, who said the visit was an annual initiative aimed at demonstrating concern for the welfare of women, children and families across Rivers State.
She stressed the need for prayers, proper upbringing and parental encouragement to enable children to grow into responsible members of their families and society.
She also commended doctors, nurses and other medical personnel at RSUTH for their service, particularly during the festive period, and acknowledged their role in ensuring safe deliveries.
Babies recognised during the visit included Nsoror Enobong Sunday, who weighed 3.8kg and was born at 9:45am, a set of twins, Kamisiyochukwu and Chikasome Emeh, as well as Dominion John.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Professor Chidindu Alikor, thanked the Rivers State Government for supporting the hospital through infrastructural development, which he said has enhanced service delivery.
Gifts were presented to the babies by the Rivers State Government, while parents expressed appreciation for the gesture.
