The Bayelsa State Government has fixed January 30 for the burial of the late Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Governor Douye Diri announced the date on Wednesday during the 179th meeting of the State Executive Council at the Government House in Yenagoa.
Ewhrudjakpo passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 60.
Governor Diri said the burial arrangements were finalised following consultations between a government-appointed funeral committee, the family of the deceased, and the Catholic Church. The committee is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei.
According to the governor, funeral activities will span four days, beginning on January 27 with sporting events in honour of the late deputy governor, who supervised the Ministry of Sports.
A Day of Tributes is scheduled for January 28 at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall in Yenagoa. This will be followed on January 29 by special valedictory sessions at the State High Court complex and later at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House.
The burial rites will conclude on January 30 with a requiem mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Ofoni community, Sagbama Local Government Area, after which Ewhrudjakpo will be laid to rest.
Governor Diri said the funeral programme reflects a consensus reached by all stakeholders and has received his formal approval.
