Army Deploys Special Forces to Plateau Over Rising Banditry

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion of special forces to Plateau State to tackle the resurgence of banditry and related security threats.

The troops, who have already arrived in the state, are expected to carry out aggressive and decisive operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace. Military authorities described the deployment as a potential game changer in addressing the prevailing security challenges.

The special forces were received at the Headquarters of 3 Division, Nigerian Army, by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. He was represented by the Chief of Staff, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Brigadier General Senlong Sule.

Welcoming the troops, the GOC urged them to remain resolute and uncompromising in the conduct of offensive operations against bandits and other criminal elements. He commended the COAS for his proactive leadership and for providing critical combat enablers and logistics required for the successful execution of the mission.

Major General Oyinlola also appealed to residents of Plateau State to remain calm despite increased troop movements and the deployment of heavy military equipment. He expressed appreciation for the continued support of the public and called for greater cooperation through the provision of timely and actionable intelligence to aid military operations.

According to the Army, enhanced collaboration between security forces and local communities is expected to accelerate efforts toward lasting peace and stability in the state.
