Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has called on corps members deployed to the state to uphold the core ideals of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme by serving with integrity, dedication and a strong sense of national unity.

The governor gave the charge at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream I orientation course.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Sir Dede Samson Friday, Governor Fubara assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to their welfare and security throughout their service year.

He urged them to serve selflessly in their places of primary assignment and strive to leave lasting legacies that would positively impact their host communities.

The governor further disclosed that the ongoing comprehensive renovation of facilities at the NYSC orientation camp would be completed promptly, reiterating that Rivers State remains a “home away from home” for corps members posted to the state’s 23 local government areas.

Fubara also admonished the corps members to be exemplary, honest, committed and dedicated in all their engagements, noting that their conduct would reflect the values and objectives of the NYSC scheme.

In his farewell address, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, charged the corps members to be agents of change by confronting tribalism, ethnic bigotry, hate speech and corruption.

He encouraged them to make a meaningful difference during their service year through selfless contributions, particularly in their host communities.

Oleghe also appealed to employers of corps members to provide a conducive working environment that would enable them to thrive, while commending Governor Fubara for his continued support to the NYSC scheme in Rivers State.
