President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s elections conducted in the Federal Capital Territory, Kano State and Rivers State, describing the polls as peaceful and successful.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the elections further strengthened Nigeria’s democratic culture and institutions.

The Independent National Electoral Commission conducted elections in the six area councils of the FCT, alongside by-elections in the Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, as well as the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

President Tinubu urged the winners to serve with humility, patriotism and dedication, noting that the mandate bestowed on them by the electorate should be regarded as a sacred trust.

He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as remarkable achievements in the territory, saying these efforts had translated into political gains for the All Progressives Congress.

The President further congratulated the national leadership of the APC, as well as the party’s leadership and members in Kano and Rivers states, on their victories at the polls.

Tinubu lauded INEC, security agencies and voters for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process, while also praising the discipline and courage displayed by all contestants.

According to him, democracy thrives on active participation and healthy competition, adding that the conduct of the elections underscored the country’s growing democratic maturity.

The President called on INEC to sustain and further improve its efforts towards delivering even more transparent and exemplary elections in the future.
