Women groups in Rivers have commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the Christmas financial support that reached rural communities across the state, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.

Operating under the platform of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, the women spoke on Thursday, February 26, 2026, during their monthly thanksgiving and prayer session held at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr. Florence Itamnala said the governor’s largesse made it possible to design a structured and inclusive distribution process through the Rivers Rural Women Support Stimulus programme. She disclosed that more than 5,000 women benefited across the 23 local government areas of the state.

According to her, beneficiaries cut across various coordinated groups, including non-indigenes, Islamic women and market women, ensuring that the intervention was inclusive and far-reaching. She noted that the funds came at a critical time when many women were in need of support.

Dr. Itamnala, a retired civil servant, expressed optimism that more support would be extended in the future to enable additional women reached, stressing that the programme had brought relief and renewed hope to many families.

She also reaffirmed the group’s commitment to sustained prayers for peace, unity and development in Rivers State, noting that their belief in the power of prayer to sustain peace in the state has continued to yield positive outcomes.

Also speaking, Dr. Juliet Berewari said the women were deeply grateful to Governor Fubara for including them in his people-oriented interventions.

She observed that Rivers State has continued to enjoy relative peace and attributed this to the governor’s deliberate efforts at promoting harmony and stability. She added that in Ahoada East Local Government Area alone, over 204 women benefited from the rural support stimulus.

Several beneficiaries who spoke at the event praised the governor for what they described as a timely lifeline, offering prayers for greater wisdom, strength and blessings upon him, his team and the entire state.

The women further clarified that the Christmas support was not limited to members of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, as non-members also were captured. For some local government areas the support was distributed based on the number of beneficiaries which reflects their unique population.
