Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has dismissed speculations of a possible defection, reaffirming his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House on Friday.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mohammed said his engagement with the President was strictly focused on governance and security cooperation, not partisan politics.

“I am a PDP man. I am not here for politics or defection. I am here purely for governance and partnership,” the governor stated.

He explained that the visit was prompted by the worsening security situation in Alkaleri Local Government Area, where increased banditry has been linked to forested areas around the Daji Dam.

According to Mohammed, he personally briefed the President on the crisis affecting communities in the area and appealed for urgent federal intervention to restore peace.

“The President received the report and responded positively. He immediately issued directives to ensure support and cooperation in addressing the security challenges,” the governor said.

Beyond Bauchi, Mohammed called for enhanced interstate collaboration to combat banditry, proposing a joint security summit involving Bauchi, Taraba, Plateau, and Gombe states.

He also reiterated his strong support for the establishment of state police, describing it as a practical step toward strengthening internal security nationwide.

“We are very ready for state police. We have always supported it because it will reduce the burden on the Federal Government and make governors more responsive and accountable to their people,” he said.

The governor stressed that tackling insecurity requires cooperation across party lines, adding that national interest and the safety of citizens must take precedence over political considerations.
