The Nigeria Police Force has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer, replacing Benjamin Hundeyin.

The development was announced on Sunday in a statement issued from the Force Headquarters in Abuja by Hundeyin, confirming the leadership change in the police communication department.

The appointment comes shortly after the swearing-in of the new Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and is seen as part of a broader reorganisation within the leadership structure of the police.

Placid, who hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo.

He further expanded his academic profile with a Master of Arts degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos. In addition, he pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree at the National Open University of Nigeria, Calabar Centre.

Placid joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Nigeria Police Academy and was formally commissioned in August 1998, marking nearly three decades of service in the force.

Over the years, he has participated in several professional and international courses, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training programme. His certifications cover Police Studies, Military Studies, Gender Awareness, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and Civilian Protection. He also completed the UNITAR Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding course in Kenya.

Within Nigeria, Placid has held various operational and administrative roles. He served as Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State and worked as Divisional Police Officer in Federal Housing Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan, and Gembu. He also headed the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna State and served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in both Akwa Ibom State and Kogi State.

In 2025, Placid completed the Senior Executive Course 47 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies and was subsequently inducted as a Member of the National Institute on December 13, 2025.

He is married with children and, outside his official duties, enjoys listening to music and engaging in sports such as football, basketball, table tennis, and badminton.
