At least one Nigerian has been reported injured after Iranian ballistic missiles targeted the United Arab Emirates amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, the attacks were part of retaliatory strikes launched by Iran over allegations that the Gulf nation allowed the United States to use its military bases to conduct operations against Tehran.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the ministry said its air defence systems had detected 262 ballistic missiles fired from Iran since the conflict began on February 28.

The ministry disclosed that 241 of the missiles were intercepted and destroyed, while 19 fell into the sea and two landed within UAE territory.

“Since the onset of the blatant Iranian attacks, 262 ballistic missiles have been detected. Of these, 241 were destroyed, 19 fell into the sea, and two struck within the state territory,” the statement said.

It added that a total of 1,475 Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were also detected, with 1,385 intercepted and 90 falling within the country’s territory. Eight cruise missiles were also detected and destroyed by the air defence systems.

The ministry said the attacks resulted in six deaths involving nationals of the UAE, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh, while 122 others sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Those injured include nationals of several countries, including the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, the Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan and Palestine.

Authorities, however, did not specify the exact number of casualties from each nationality.

Meanwhile, the defence ministry said on Wednesday that the country’s air defence systems were again intercepting incoming missiles and drones launched from Iran.

In a post on X, the ministry said: “UAE air defences are currently responding to incoming missile and drone threats from Iran.”

It added that explosions heard in parts of the country were caused by the interception of the missiles and drones by the country’s air defence systems.
