Norwegian authorities have sentenced 19-year-old Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga to six months in prison for committing a sexual act without consent. Daga, who plays for Molde FK, was also ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal fees, TV 2 Norway reported.

The conviction follows an incident reported to Norwegian police in April 2025. Daga was charged under Section 297 of the Norwegian Penal Code, which criminalizes sexual activity without consent. Prosecutors sought a six-month jail term, which the court upheld on Tuesday. Details of the case remain limited in public records.

Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, said her client disputes the ruling and maintains that the encounter was consensual. She confirmed the verdict is not yet final and that Daga plans to appeal.

“He is very upset about the verdict. He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent,” Bolstad told TV 2. “The verdict is not legally binding yet. He should be treated like anyone else until the case is finalised.” She noted that Daga has continued training in recent weeks.

Molde FK described the situation as difficult and announced that Daga will not be included in the club’s matchday squad until further notice. Chairman Tarje Nordstrand Jacobsen emphasized the club’s responsibility to support employees while respecting the seriousness of the matter.

Daga joined Molde ahead of the 2025 season, making 15 appearances and scoring three goals. Internationally, he represented Nigeria’s U-20 team and was the youngest player in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
