President Bola Tinubu has directed the distribution of rice across the country to support Nigerians observing the holy periods of Ramadan and Lent.
The initiative will be coordinated by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors as part of a nationwide humanitarian effort aimed at assisting families during the ongoing seasons of fasting, prayer, and reflection.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Hope Uzodimma, who also serves as Director-General of the group.
According to him, the directive is intended to demonstrate compassion and strengthen unity among Nigerians during a period that holds deep spiritual significance for both Muslims and Christians.
Uzodimma explained that the rice distribution would be carried out through the organisation’s grassroots structures across all states of the federation.
He noted that the arrangement would involve coordination at state, local government, and ward levels to ensure that the relief materials reach households in various communities.
The governor said the strategy is designed to guarantee transparency and ensure the support reaches a broad segment of the population.
He emphasised that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to fostering national unity and interfaith harmony.
“Ramadan and Lent remind us of the values of sacrifice, charity, and compassion for others. Through this effort, families across Nigeria will experience the spirit of solidarity during this sacred season,” Uzodimma said.
He further explained that the programme aligns with the President’s broader vision of encouraging empathy and communal support among citizens.
Uzodimma added that the distribution would leverage the extensive network of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to reach communities at the grassroots.
According to him, the group has structures already in place across the country, making it possible to deliver the support effectively.
He also recalled that a similar intervention was undertaken during the previous Christmas celebrations, when rice was distributed nationwide to assist families marking the festive period.
The initiative, he noted, was well received by many communities that benefited from the gesture.
Uzodimma stated that the continued interventions demonstrate the government’s intention to stand with citizens during important religious and cultural observances.
He added that the programme forms part of broader efforts aimed at easing hardship and encouraging social cohesion.
The governor urged Nigerians to use the Ramadan and Lenten seasons to pray for peace, unity, and progress in the country.
He also encouraged citizens to embrace the values of compassion and mutual support that both religious observances represent.
The distribution exercise is expected to commence through designated coordinators across the states in the coming days.
