President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s service chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri to take charge of the security situation following deadly bomb attacks in the city.

The directive comes after multiple explosions on Monday evening left over 20 people dead and more than 100 others injured in coordinated attacks blamed on suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

In a statement issued shortly before departing for a state visit to the United Kingdom, Tinubu described the incidents as deeply troubling and extended condolences to victims and their families.

“The recent news from Maiduguri is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured, and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno,” he said.

The President stressed that the attacks were desperate attempts by terrorists to instil fear, insisting that such efforts would fail.

“These acts of terror are the final desperate moves of criminals under sustained pressure from our armed forces. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” Tinubu stated.

He commended security forces for repelling coordinated assaults on military positions in the state, describing the attackers as “evil-minded” elements.

Tinubu also revealed that he had recently approved additional military equipment and operational support to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

“I have directed the service chiefs to move to Maiduguri and take charge. There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and defeat them,” he added.

The President further instructed emergency agencies to ensure proper medical care for the injured as authorities intensify efforts to restore security in the North-East.
