Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to formally receive Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, into the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday, following the governor’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Governor Lawal, who defected alongside his deputy, cabinet members, and supporters, cited internal crises within the PDP as the reason for his decision. The announcement was made in Saudi Arabia through Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni.

Ahead of the event, the Zamfara State Government has inaugurated a reception committee to coordinate the Vice President’s visit and the governor’s formal induction into the APC.

The committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Mummuni, comprises both loyalists of Governor Lawal and existing APC members, with a mandate to ensure a smooth and inclusive integration process.

According to a statement by Suleman Ahmad Tudu, Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the State Government, the event is expected to be a major political gathering, symbolising unity within the party in the state.

Inaugurating the committee, Mummuni urged members to discharge their duties with commitment, stressing that the governor remains dedicated to fairness and inclusiveness in the party structure.

Also speaking, Zamfara APC Chairman, Tukur Umar Danfulani, called on party faithful to embrace the development, describing it as a step toward strengthening unity.

The statement added that the APC in Zamfara has gained over 210,000 new members following Lawal’s defection, significantly boosting the party’s grassroots base in the state.
