The Screening Subcommittee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared key members of its National Working Committee (NWC), including National Chairman Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, Deputy National Organising Secretary Nze Chidi Duru, and National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for this weekend.

The committee, chaired by Biodun Oyebanji, screened several aspirants seeking to participate in the convention. While some, including top officials like the chairman and secretary, were cleared without opposition, others were reportedly advised to step down following the exercise. Former Abia State governor Orji Uzor Kalu was among notable party figures who appeared before the panel.

Other NWC members screened include National Welfare Secretary Donatus Nwankpa, National Organising Secretary Suleiman Argungu, National Treasurer Matthew Uguru, and Deputy National Chairmen Emma Eneukwu, Buka Dalori, and Ben Nwoye.

Speaking after the screening, Yilwatda and Basiru expressed satisfaction at emerging unopposed, describing it as a call to greater responsibility in repositioning the party.

Basiru highlighted efforts to strengthen the party’s administrative structure, noting improvements in the functionality of its secretariat and the conduct of internal processes, including primaries and other activities. He added that the party would focus on consolidating its structures from the grassroots to the national level, with plans to activate key organs such as the National Advisory Council after the convention.

He also expressed confidence that the convention would be peaceful, vibrant, and one of the most significant political gatherings in Nigeria, given the calibre of individuals involved in its planning.

On his part, Yilwatda said his decision to appear before the screening panel underscored the APC’s commitment to internal democracy. He assured party members that preparations were in top gear, with committees mobilising resources to ensure a seamless and hitch-free convention.

The APC national convention is expected to hold on Friday and Saturday, bringing together party leaders and delegates from across the country.
