The Military High Command has dismissed concerns that insurgents could overrun Borno State and the wider Northeast, insisting there is no credible threat of a terrorist takeover in the region.
The clarification follows recent warnings by Ali Ndume, who cautioned that renewed attacks could enable terrorists to seize control if decisive action is not taken.
Responding to the claims, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja, reaffirmed the military’s readiness and ongoing efforts to contain insurgency across the region.
He disclosed that the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has directed troops to intensify offensive operations against insurgents, assuring that the impact of these actions would soon be evident.
Onoja emphasised that the Armed Forces remain committed to restoring peace and stability not only in Borno and the Northeast but across Nigeria, stressing that fears of a possible takeover are unfounded.
