The South-South chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected a new Zonal Executive Committee at a consensus-based congress held in Asaba, in a move aimed at strengthening party unity and positioning for the 2027 general elections.

The congress attracted key stakeholders from across the region, including the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, governors, lawmakers and party delegates, reflecting the party’s growing presence in the South-South.

Proceedings began with the dissolution of the outgoing Zonal Executive Committee, following a motion moved by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, and seconded by his Bayelsa counterpart, Abraham Ingobere. The motion received unanimous approval.

Delegates subsequently adopted consensus as the mode of electing new officers, a motion moved by Senator Essien Williams and seconded by Senator Aniekan Bassey.

At the end of the exercise, Victor Giadom emerged as National Vice Chairman (South-South). Other members of the executive include Ita Udosen (Secretary), Neworld Safugha (Legal Adviser), Samuel Nwanosike (Publicity Secretary), Urhoro Koyoyo (Youth Leader), Suobankuo Omoni (Women Leader), Prince Edward (Organising Secretary), and Ayo Peter.

In his remarks, Akpabio conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and commended the region for its growing unity, describing the South-South as an emerging stronghold for the APC.

He urged party members to intensify efforts toward making the zone the highest vote-delivering region in the 2027 elections.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said the successful congress demonstrated the party’s strength and readiness for future contests, calling for sustained grassroots mobilisation.

Similarly, Governor Douye Diri emphasised that consensus-based leadership would reduce internal conflicts and foster unity within the party.

Other governors in attendance, including Umo Eno, Bassey Otu, Monday Okpebholo, and Siminalayi Fubara, stressed the importance of political cooperation and alignment with the Federal Government.

Speaking at the event, Fubara urged the newly elected leadership to remain united and focused, noting that cohesion would be key to achieving then party’s electoral goals.

The congress concluded with the formal inauguration of the new zonal executives, amid optimism about the party’s prospects in the South-South ahead of 2027.
