A former Commander of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG), Brigadier General Lawal Bature Mohammed (rtd), has died following injuries he sustained during a bandit attack last year.
The late officer, popularly known as Dan Gusau, had been receiving treatment in Egypt after suffering gunshot wounds inflicted by bandits in Zamfara State.
During his recovery period, retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Shehu Daligent, was appointed to replace him as commander of the CPG.
Reacting to earlier losses among security operatives, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, had honoured families of fallen Community Protection Guards, decorating 20 operatives for their bravery and pledging continued support for their relatives.
The funeral prayer for the late Brigadier General was held on Thursday evening in the Sabon Gari area of Gusau, where he was subsequently laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.
