Abdulrahaman Mohammed has emerged as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the party’s national convention held in Abuja on Sunday.
According to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria, Mohammed and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were elected through a consensus arrangement to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Convention Electoral Committee, Sandy Onor, listed key members of the newly constituted NWC. Aaron Chukwuemeka was named Deputy National Chairman (South), while Yusufu Akirikwen, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, emerged as Deputy National Chairman (North).
In other positions, Samuel Anyanwu was elected National Secretary, alongside Kolawole Olabisi as Deputy National Secretary. Diran Odeyemi emerged as National Treasurer, with Lado Mark serving as Deputy National Treasurer.
The position of National Financial Secretary went to Eyim Henry, while Grema Kyari was named Deputy National Financial Secretary. Umar Bature emerged as National Organising Secretary, with Efere Augustine as his deputy.
Further appointments saw Jungudo Mohammed named National Publicity Secretary, while Egwu Chidiebere became Deputy National Publicity Secretary. Kamaldeen Ajibade was elected National Legal Adviser, with Aloysius Uba as Deputy National Legal Adviser.
Other members include Osuoha Donatus as National Auditor and Adaba Yatu as Deputy National Auditor. Ogunshe Adedayo was elected National Woman Leader, with Hauwa Shinge as her deputy.
In the youth wing, Ibrahim Aboki emerged as National Youth Leader, while Momoh Bashir was elected Deputy National Youth Leader.
The newly elected NWC members were sworn in shortly after their emergence, marking the beginning of a new leadership phase for the opposition party.
In his acceptance speech, Mohammed expressed gratitude to party delegates and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him. He assured members that the new leadership would prioritise unity, internal cohesion, and strategic repositioning of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
