The Kwankwasiyya Movement has announced that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will formally join the African Democratic Congress on Monday, marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The development was disclosed in a statement by the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, who said the decision aligns with the group’s commitment to democratic ideals and good governance.

According to the statement, Kwankwaso is scheduled to complete his registration with the ADC at his residence in Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Kano, by 12 p.m. on March 30, 2026.

The announcement has generated widespread reactions within political circles, particularly given the influence of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which commands a strong grassroots following, especially in Kano State.

Mohammed explained that the move was a strategic step aimed at strengthening democratic principles and promoting inclusive leadership that reflects the aspirations of the people.

He called on members of the movement across the country to immediately align with the ADC by registering at their respective wards, local government areas, and state chapters.

Reaffirming the group’s ideological stance, Mohammed noted that the decision was driven by the collective interest of Nigerians and the need to safeguard democratic values.

He urged supporters not only to join the party but also to actively engage in its programmes and contribute to its growth at all levels.

Political observers believe the defection could reshape alliances ahead of future elections, as Kwankwaso remains a key figure with substantial political capital.

The statement concluded with an assurance that the Kwankwasiyya Movement remains united and committed to pursuing a people-centred political agenda, describing the move as the beginning of a new phase in its political journey.
