The Delta State Police Command has intensified its fight against crime, arresting 34 suspected cybercriminals, apprehending armed robbery suspects, and recovering firearms in a series of coordinated operations across the state.
According to SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, the operation against cybercrime began on 28 March 2026 when the Quick Response Squad, led by SP Collins Arrey, raided a residential apartment in Opete believed to be a hub for internet fraud. The raid followed a distress call from a young man who reported that his brother was being held hostage and forced to participate in cybercrime. During the operation, 34 suspects were arrested, and police recovered 37 laptops, one iPad, seven mobile phones, and a calabash containing suspected charms, highlighting the organised nature of the illicit network. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of their activities.
In a separate incident on 29 March, operatives from the Department of Operations intercepted a tricycle along Ogbolu/Illah Road carrying two men under suspicious circumstances. One occupant attempted to flee but was arrested after resisting with a wooden object. Police recovered a locally fabricated cut-to-size gun loaded with two live cartridges. The suspects, identified as Mustapha Musa, 32, from Kogi State, and tricycle rider Iyanosor Ogbizi, 34, remain in police custody as investigations continue.
SP Edafe said the operations demonstrate the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, rapid response, and proactive measures to curb criminal activities in Delta State. He urged the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement, and provide credible information that could aid in combating crime.
The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, reaffirmed its determination to rid the state of all forms of criminality.
