Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Thursday evening launched an attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to Zamfara State Governor, with the official narrowly escaping harm.

The Chief of Staff, Mouktar Lugga, who serves under Governor Dauda Lawal, was targeted along the Funtua–Gusau highway while returning to Gusau from an official engagement.

According to a report by counter-terrorism analyst Makama Zagazola, the incident occurred around 6:16 p.m. near Kucheri village when armed assailants ambushed the vehicle from both sides of the road.

Sources indicated that the attackers opened fire on the convoy, with one bullet piercing the vehicle’s windshield and narrowly missing the driver. Another assailant reportedly attempted to shoot at close range, but the weapon failed to discharge.

Despite the intensity of the attack, the driver managed to navigate out of the ambush, ensuring that Lugga and the other occupants escaped without injury.

The incident underscores the persistent security challenges in parts of Zamfara State, where armed banditry and highway attacks remain a major concern for residents and government officials alike.
