President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated the Federal Government’s determination to tackle insecurity, declaring that Nigeria will overcome banditry and terrorism through sustained efforts and strategic investments.

The President made the assertion on Saturday during the inauguration of the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, a flagship project of the state government.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration remains steadfast in strengthening national security while investing in human capital to drive long-term development.

“We will win over banditry and terrorism,” the President said, expressing confidence that ongoing security measures would deliver tangible results.

He emphasised the importance of infrastructure development in boosting economic growth, describing such projects as critical to enhancing Nigeria’s economic corridors and connectivity.

Tinubu commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as transformative leadership, particularly in advancing the aviation sector through the construction of the Gateway International Airport.

The President also inaugurated the state-owned Gateway Airline alongside other major projects, including road and housing developments, noting that the governor had justified the confidence placed in him by both the Federal Government and the people of Ogun State.

“In less than seven years, you have demonstrated commitment, vision, and patriotism in growing Nigeria. I have no regrets supporting you,” Tinubu said, while praising the effective use of increased federal allocations for development.

He further stated that his administration’s policies are people-focused, adding that Nigeria is gradually regaining global respect and recognition after years of economic challenges.

Tinubu noted that the airport project aligns with broader investments in energy and infrastructure, positioning Ogun State as a key hub for commerce and logistics.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who also spoke at the event, described the airport as a landmark achievement and commended the President for attending the historic occasion.

Obasanjo highlighted the airport’s strategic advantage, noting that it significantly reduces travel time compared to landing in Lagos.

Also speaking, Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, stating that they have improved financial stability for states and reduced salary backlogs.

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun lauded Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying it has repositioned Nigeria as an attractive destination for investment and sustainable growth.

He explained that the new airport is equipped to handle commercial flights, including routes to Abuja, and features a nearly 4-kilometre runway capable of accommodating large aircraft, as well as modern aviation and cargo-handling facilities.

Abiodun added that the project forms part of a broader development strategy that includes extensive road infrastructure, positioning Ogun State as a major economic and logistics hub in the country.
