The National Assembly has officially shifted the resumption date for plenary sittings from April 29 to May 6, 2025.

This was disclosed in separate internal memoranda issued by the Clerk to the Senate, Mr. Andrew Ogbonna Nwoba, and the Clerk to the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, both dated April 20, 2025.

The Senate and House had earlier adjourned plenary on March 27, 2025, to allow lawmakers partake in the Easter and Sallah festivities. However, the resumption has now been further delayed to accommodate the International Workers’ Day public holiday and enhance constituency engagements.

The memo from the Senate Clerk read:

“Distinguished Senators, I am directed to inform you that the resumption of plenary sittings of the Senate, earlier scheduled for Monday 29th, April 2025, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 6th May 2025.

“This postponement is made to allow Distinguished Senators stay with their constituents during the International Workers’ Day public holiday in the first week of May, and to further enhance constituency engagements.

“Distinguished Senators are kindly requested to take note of this postponement, while regretting any inconvenience the change might have caused.”

Similarly, the House of Representatives memo signed by Dr. Danzaria stated:

“I am directed to respectfully inform you that the resumption of plenary sittings of the House of Representatives, earlier scheduled for Monday, 29th April 2025, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 6th May 2025.

“This adjustment is made to allow Honourable Members remain in their constituencies during the International Workers’ Day public holiday in the first week of May, and to further deepen constituency engagements in line with the representative mandate of the House.”

The Clerk also conveyed the leadership’s “highest regards” to all members and urged them to take note of the new date.

With this new adjustment, legislative activities in both chambers of the National Assembly will now resume on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
