POLICE RAID CRIMINAL ARMORY, RECOVER CACHE OF FIREARMS IN IKOT EKPENE

Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime with the bust of a criminal armory and recovery of several firearms in Ikot Ekpene.

In a statement issued on Saturday, April 26, 2025, the Command announced that a joint police operation led to the arrest of one Monday Maurice Okoko, a 72-year-old man suspected to be behind the illegal stockpile of weapons.

Following his arrest around 5:15 am, a search was conducted at his residence and surrounding premises, leading to the recovery of a significant haul of arms, including one locally made revolver pistol, one cut-to-size locally made pistol, a single-barrel locally fabricated gun, a LAR locally fabricated gun, and five Dane guns. Gunpowder and Borries ammunition were also seized during the raid.

Police authorities revealed that preliminary investigations are underway to track down other members of the suspected gang believed to be using the weapons to terrorize residents across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, who signed the release, assured the public that the Command remains committed to flushing out criminal elements and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
