Tragedy struck in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba on Monday as a suspected vandal met his untimely end while attempting to steal components from a public transformer.
According to Hon. Emeka Owen Azubuike, who shared the incident on his Meta handle, the vandal was electrocuted at the Wilcox Relief Transformer while allegedly trying to cart away system-attached items. Unfortunately for him, power was restored during the act, leading to a fatal electric shock.
“It is some day for the thief but one day for the owner of the house,” Azubuike remarked, emphasizing the risks of tampering with public infrastructure.
Residents have since called on authorities and security agencies to tighten surveillance around power installations in the area to prevent further cases of vandalism and potential loss of life.
Efforts are underway to identify the deceased and inform his family, while the relevant authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the incident.
