Former Councillor of Ward 2 in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Hon. Justice Wogu Dappa, last Sunday, marked the festive season with the people of Units 3 and 13 during their annual thanksgiving celebration in Opobo, an event widely praised by residents for its scale and impact.

The thanksgiving service, held in Opobo Town, featured the donation of one cow, several bags of rice, and cash support to households across Ward 2. Community members described the gesture as unprecedented in the ward’s political history, noting that no former councillor had previously celebrated the season with the people in such a comprehensive and inclusive manner.

Residents recalled that during his tenure, Hon. Dappa executed projects widely regarded as impactful and people-oriented, leaving visible improvements across the ward. They said his continued engagement with the community after leaving office demonstrates a sustained commitment to service beyond political position.

Speakers at the event commended his leadership style and acknowledged the influence of his ward leader and mentor, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby Fulton, whom they credited with instilling values of generosity, mentorship, and community-focused leadership. According to them, Hon. Dappa’s actions reflect continuity in leadership and loyalty to grassroots development.

In his remarks, Hon. Dappa expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and give back to his people. He urged residents to remain united and to continue their support and loyalty to the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, whom he described as their general leader, as well as to the Ward 2 leader, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby Fulton.

The event featured songs of appreciation, prayers—particularly from elderly women—and goodwill messages from community leaders, all of whom lauded the former councillor for remembering his people and maintaining a strong bond with the ward.

The thanksgiving celebration ended on a reflective and appreciative note, reinforcing the view among residents that true leadership is measured not only by time in office but by lasting impact and continuous service to the people.
