No fewer than 30 persons have lost their lives in a fatal road accident involving a trailer at Kwanar Barde in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The crash, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, involved a trailer travelling towards Gujungu in neighbouring Jigawa State and was reportedly caused by reckless driving. Several other victims sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state.
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Sunday expressed deep condolences to the families of those who died in the accident. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the governor described the incident as tragic and painful.
Governor Yusuf prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked Allah to grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the crash.
The governor directed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to immediately assess the situation and provide necessary support to the affected families. He also instructed the Ministry of Health to ensure free medical care for survivors of the accident.
Warning motorists, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, the governor urged strict adherence to traffic regulations, stressing that reckless driving must be avoided to prevent a recurrence of such tragic incidents.
