A Nigerian mother, Oluranti Akinyemi (née Oluwalana/Ogundana), tragically passed away in the United Kingdom just days after arriving to celebrate her son’s graduation.
The news was shared on X by a UK-based biomedical scientist known as SK the Plug (@Dhkrullah), who revealed that Mrs. Akinyemi had travelled to the UK on February 11 to attend the February 18 graduation ceremony of her second child.
According to the post, less than 20 hours after her arrival, Mrs. Akinyemi suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to Luton and Dunstable Hospital.
“She remained on life support for three days but was declared clinically dead on February 14,” the post stated. “What should have been a celebration has become a devastating loss for the family.”
All four of Mrs. Akinyemi’s children reside in the UK. The family is now urgently seeking assistance to repatriate her remains to Nigeria for burial, as well as to settle outstanding medical bills and cover funeral expenses.
The post appealed for public support, saying: “No amount is too small. Your donation, prayer, and share mean everything to us. Thank you for standing with our family during this painful time.”
The tragic incident has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a joyful family occasion, highlighting the emotional and financial strain families can face when sudden medical emergencies occur abroad.
